Week 1 Weekly Report

Week one is officially over which is great. Now we can continue with the real schooling.

As usual, the week didn't go as planned. Park day was nice. Berry picking is my new favorite way to start the school year.
Unfortunately, we got back home before 11am which meant we had time to do more school. Luckily, I had picked up about fifty books at the library on Tuesday. We loved Anno's Mysterious Multiplying Jar. I didn't think factorials could be that interesting, but it was great, and her eyes positively sparkled with excitement as she figured it out. I love to see new ideas hit their beautiful brains. We also read some grammar books. I will caution you to not try to read four rhyming grammar books together. I was tired of reading by the third one. CC loved her day at the ps enrichment school. She loved the Celtic tales, but I need to reschedule these as one a week is a better pace. She only had a short fit about math before she dug in and whizzed through the page of two-digit addition. I really like the Math Mammoth addition book.

Other than those things we enjoyed How Much is a Million, City, digging a river in the backyard, making a home under the back deck, using the wagon as a school bus, The Fairy Tale Detectives, On the Banks of Plum Creek, and the park.

For not-Preschool, we had fun too. We read Chicka Chicka 1,2,3 and Hotel Animal. We talked about numbers and sizes and proportions. We also did the chicken dance, made a harmonica from craft sticks and rubber bands, went swimming and went to the park.

For a first week of school, it was wonderful. We relaxed into the school year. I need to work on getting back into the rhythm of the school day.
